#31 Week 8: Post-production reflection

During the eight weeks of planning, filming, and editing there have been some key events that occurred throughout the project. The first key event was the dilemma with our filming day. Originally, my partners and I planned a day that worked for us three and our cast. However, on film day we only got a few seconds in before the camera completely died on us. So, we tried everything to get it to work but it was not budging. Ending the filming early was disappointing but having it so early in the project we had time to plan another day. Once we got back into class, we realized our teacher had to order a brand-new battery so we could not even do anything ourselves to fix it. This was a key event, because I quickly realized how fast everything could go wrong during the process of creating our film and if not for that mishap, then our film would not be what it is today.

Another key event I would like to reflect on is the weather that occurred on our second attempt of filming. So, when the film was finally able to be recorded it was bright and sunny outside. Which was great news as we were using the natural light that comes into my room for the film. As the hours went by for filming the clouds began to come in and it began to rain outside. For most people they may think this is a setback or disadvantage. But, it worked in our favor, whereas the darker lighting halfway through the opening creates a feeling of anticipation for the audience. By the end of the opening, when Isabella opens the door and sees Adam, that is when the suspense breaks and relieves any ideas the audience may have thought leading up to it.

Lastly, finishing the editing portion of the project was a key event. While I was finalizing the last few details of our film opening, I got excited for what I had accomplished during the last few weeks. If I had to estimate how long it took me to complete the editing, I would say it took me over 14 hours to edit the whole project from start to finish. I also am glad I gave Madelyn the opening credits to edit to help me out time wise and looked so good. Overall, editing and adding my creativity to the film helped it become more professional and is why it is one of my key events from the eight-week project.
