As I am finishing the last few editing touches on the film, I knew that I needed to attempt to obtain the rights to use "Perfect Day" by Hoku. While doing some research I found that Hoku is a retired singer songwriter who was signed to Interscope/Geffen Records. Through their website, I found an email and reached out to the recording label. However, the email was one of their “contact if you have questions or concerns " emails, so I felt they may not see or get to my email in time. So, I did some more thorough research and discovered that Interscope/Geffen Records is owned by Universal Music Group. On their website, I found their license quote request by filling out questions like media type, website uploaded too, and title of our film highlighting the song.
Unfortunately, since February 11th, I sent these emails out and have not received a response. So hopefully by the end of my project my group and I will get the rights to ‘Perfect Day’ but if not, at least we attempted to get copyright permission.
